「むらやし」とは、信仰・慣習・祭り・生業などの記憶媒体を指す造語です。正史などの「大きな歴史」には残りにくい、人々の小さな記憶の集積である「村の野史」を由来としています。

地元民による自律的な集落を目指し、中央集権的な地方経営の外にある地方分権の姿を実現することを目的とします。そのために、東アジア各地の集落に入り込み、地元の人々と共にその場所に潜在する特有の魅力を再発見します。それらを空間化させる広義な設計を行い、また、各集落がその過程で得た人・物・技術などを交換することによって文化的・経済的に連携して自律した集落運営を行うための「むらやしネットワーク」を構築します。

“Murayashi” is a coined term referring to repositories of memories—such as beliefs, customs, festivals, and livelihoods. It derives from the concept of “village folklore”—an accumulation of people’s small, personal memories that are rarely recorded in “grand histories” such as official chronicles.

Our goal is to create self-governing communities led by local residents and to realize a form of decentralization that exists outside of centralized regional governance. To achieve this, we immerse ourselves in communities across East Asia and work alongside local people to rediscover the unique charm inherent in each place. We carry out design in the broadest sense to give tangible form to these discoveries, and we build the “Murayashi Network” to enable autonomous community management through cultural and economic collaboration—achieved by exchanging the people, resources, and technologies gained by each community during this process.
